If you were lucky and had gotten birthday or confirmation money - you sometimes got albums. But we spent money on albums very carefully. And if you purchased an album on the strength of one or two hits from the radio and the rest of it sucked - you were MAD. Almost every kid I knew had a bigger collection of 45's than albums.

Later, when we got jobs and got into albums, they became unwieldy, both literally and figuratively. You couldn't discuss deep album tracks with friends who didn't have the same record. We became myopic and defensive of bands as if they were family and we judged each other on the worthiness, and size of our album collections.

For me it has always really been about the song. Albums are great, and I'm no stranger to band loyalty to the extreme, but the song is what reaches into our soul and grabs us first and holds on to us. The first time I heard the Beatles it wasn't Abbey Road, start to finish the way they intended for their work to be experienced. It was Love Me Do on the radio preceded by an ad after an annoying screaming announcer, and followed by Top Of The World by the Carpenters.

The curse and the blessing of our current musical futureworld is that there are about a zillion more songs available to us every day than ever before in history, not to mention the kerjillion of older existing songs we just haven't heard yet. All at our disposal with the click of a mouse.

So my goal with this blog is to separate the wheat from the chaff. Obviously music is a very personal thing and you may disagree vehemently with my choices. But then again - you may not. I'm going to be talking about great songs, songs to avoid, songs that shouldn't be allowed to ever be played again, old songs, songs from the future. (Yes I've been there. No I can't help you win the lottery because it could negatively affect my past self, duh. Jeez, doesn't anyone watch movies anymore?)

In the upcoming weeks and months I will be installing features so that you can purchase songs from my blog through itunes, amazon etc. Every time you do that - you'll be paying the same as you regularly do and you'll be helping me pay some bills. Which would be super cool.

But for the time being - I hope you like the songs.
I picked them out myself.
Just for you.
